An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to join the SHEQ team at Lancashire Renewables Ltd. working across our Leyland and Thornton facilities.

The Environmental Advisor will be responsible for providing direct support to the SHEQ Manager to achieve industry leading levels of performance in terms of environmental management and compliance in accordance with the company quality systems and all legislative requirements. The role involves working in accordance with the company's Safety, Health, Environmental & Quality policies and procedures, and leading on the monitoring and reporting of site activities related to environmental management and the MRF code of practice. The advisor will also assist in updating environmental management documentation, deliver staff awareness training, liaise with external service providers and regulators, and ensure the effective use of business systems such as CODA, SharePoint, and EPRAIS.

Key duties include:

  • Conducting environmental audits and inspections
  • Preparing reports
  • Managing permit reporting and EA notifications
  • Supporting external audits
  • Contributing to project work as directed by the SHEQ Manager
  • Leading the Waste Audit Team in implementing the quarterly sampling programme in accordance with the MRF code of practice
  • Providing professional advisory support to site teams
  • Participating in business meetings and safety briefings as required

To be successful in this position, it is essential that you hold an IEMA Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management or equivalent, or CIWM (WAMITAB) Level 4 Medium Risk Non-Hazardous Waste Treatment and Transfer. Knowledge and experience in the following areas is also critical for this role:

  • Relevant experience of environmental advisor in waste, manufacturing, chemical or similar working environments
  • Experience in interacting, reporting to the Environment Agency

Lancashire Renewables Ltd was established for the operation and management of the two waste treatment facilities built for the Lancashire Waste Contract. Our two facilities in Thornton and Leyland are manned 365 days a year. Both sites can process over 5,000 tonnes of residual (black bin bag) waste per week and divert 95% of this material away from landfill. Our aim is to achieve a sustainable future for Lancashire by providing services to process biodegradable and non-biodegradable community waste.
