The Targeted Youth Support team, part of Lancashire County Council's Children and Family Wellbeing Service, is looking to recruit a permanent full-time (37 hours per week) Professional Range Youth Worker to work across the Hyndburn and Ribble Valley District. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, organised, and passionate about making a difference in young people’s lives.

The Service is a key contributor to the prevention and early intervention agenda for Lancashire County Council, delivering targeted prevention and early intervention work to ensure that young people receive the help they need early, reducing the necessity for higher-cost specialist intervention. It enables young people to succeed by providing high-quality informal education opportunities to promote their personal and social development.

The Youth Worker's role includes:

  • Contributing to the delivery of youth work opportunities in various settings, including youth clubs and in collaboration with schools and other agencies.
  • Initiating and developing relationships with 11 to 19-year-olds and up to 25-year-olds for young people with vulnerabilities.
  • Working directly with targeted young people to broaden their horizons and involvement in positive activities.
  • Designing and developing youth work responses underpinned by the four cornerstones of youth work: equality, participation, education, and empowerment.
  • Delivering preventative programmes, evidencing learning outcomes, and meeting targets.
  • Establishing new initiatives that develop stimulating and challenging youth work programmes.
  • Working in group settings and delivering one-to-one support to identified individuals.

Essential skills include the ability to quickly establish positive relationships with diverse groups of young people and partners, responding flexibly to their needs and the priorities of the Service. Good IT, organisation, and communication skills are essential for recording data on a management information system, meeting targets, producing reports, and corresponding with young people, parents, and partners.

The role involves delivering face-to-face work in accordance with JNC terms and conditions, including trips, activity days, and residentials. Access to a vehicle is essential as travel across the districts and occasionally across the county will be required.

A nationally recognised JNC qualification for Youth and Community Workers and evidence of continued professional development is required.
