Streetworks Inspector | Technical Support (Highways) | Preston – Lancashire County Council

Street Works Inspectors play a key role in the delivery of the Lancashire permit scheme, coordinating and inspecting works on the highway. The role involves inspections in line with the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 and the Lancashire permit scheme, meeting with works operators (including utilities and contractors) to ensure effective planning, coordination and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect highway works to ensure compliance with national codes of practice and the Lancashire permit scheme.
  • Meet with works operators to plan and coordinate works and safety measures.
  • Minimise delays and disruption caused by works and activities through effective inspection and coordination.
  • Operate flexibly across Lancashire with a substantial amount of outdoor work and travel.

Requirements

  • Full-time role (37 hours per week) based at the team’s office on Cuerden Way, Bamber Bridge; work flexibly across Lancashire.
  • Driving licence (full and valid) is essential; a Lancashire County Council van or similar is provided for work-related travel.
  • Working hours follow a split rota pattern: 07:30–15:30 one week and 09:00–17:00; the team operates on a 5-over-7 schedule including weekend work on a rota basis. Flexibility within contracted hours is required.

Benefits

  • Salary: £28,142 – £32,062 per annum; Permanent, Full Time, 37 hours per week; Pro Rata where applicable.
