We are looking for enthusiastic Highway Engineers to join our growing Major Transport Infrastructure Delivery Team at Lancashire County Council. This is an exciting opportunity to shape and influence the future of transport at a forward-thinking local authority. This is a diverse role working closely with other engineers, transport spatial and environmental planners to plan, design and deliver major highway infrastructure and active travel improvements across the county.
About us: We are a dedicated multi-disciplinary team comprising civil engineering, spatial and environmental planning, and transport planning professionals with a proven track record of delivering major transport infrastructure with an ongoing ambitious programme of works. Our recent achievements include completion of the 207m Preston Western Distributor Road (Edith Rigby Way) including delivery of M55 J2 supporting growth in North-West Preston and the 17m Penwortham Bypass (John Horrocks Way) which has significantly eased congestion and alleviated air quality issues through the town of Penwortham in South Ribble.
Lancashire County Council is one of the largest local authorities in the UK covering a substantial urban and rural area in north-west England encompassing 12 district councils. About the role: The successful candidates will join an established and highly regarded engineering team within a multi-disciplinary team responsible for the planning and delivery of major transport schemes across Lancashire. Supported by the Principal Engineer and Engineering Team Leader you can expect to be active on a number of projects at any given time developing designs and supporting the delivery of highway scheme proposals. Typical activities can vary in both scale and nature making the workload extremely interesting. The role is based in County Hall Preston with opportunities for home working. We embrace flexible working and understand that it can support the diverse needs of our team empowering them to achieve a better work/life balance around their personal obligations. We also offer relocation expenses.
About you: We are looking for individuals with a passion for highway design. You will have a relevant qualification or substantial vocational experience in highway design or similar. You will have knowledge of the application principles, theory and practice of the specialist area and the ability to apply technical/specialist judgement to ensure scheme objectives are achieved. You will have experience of undertaking design work for highways schemes and be proficient in the use of AutoCAD. You will have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills with a wide range of disciplines and external organisations. You will be required to provide a car for use in connection with the duties of this post and must be insured for business use. However, we may consider you if you cannot drive because of a disability.
