We’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer to play a key technical leadership role in modernising our data platforms, automating data flows, and enabling high‑quality analytics and business intelligence that supports better decisions across the organisation. This is a hands‑on, influential role where your expertise will shape how data is designed, engineered, governed and used at scale.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Design, build and deploy scalable, automated ETL/ELT pipelines
- Re‑engineer manual data processes into robust, repeatable data flows
- Optimise data platforms to support analytics, reporting and statutory returns
- Develop and maintain solutions using Microsoft Azure technologies, including Microsoft OneLake, Fabric, Azure SQL and SQL Server
- Create dimensional data models and assured datasets that support insight and decision‑making
- Support data quality, master data management and data cataloguing
- Take technical ownership of solution designs aligned to the Council’s target data architecture
- Work in an Agile, DevOps‑led environment using Azure DevOps and CI/CD practices
- Mentor and support less experienced engineers
- Engage with stakeholders to propose innovative, value‑driven solutions
What We’re Looking For
- Strong experience in data engineering within cloud‑based platforms (Azure preferred)
- Proven experience delivering end‑to‑end data solutions
- Excellent SQL skills including performance optimisation
- Experience with ETL, data integration and analytics platforms
- Experience with Python, Java or Scala
- Knowledge of DevOps and Agile delivery
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly
- Experience mentoring or supporting other engineers
