General Maintenance Operative Salary £25,989 - £28,142 per annum | Permanent | Full time, 37 hours per week. This position is based at County Hall in Preston and may require support across various sites in the county.

Overview

Provide an in‑house repair and maintenance service across the County Hall complex and the Older People’s establishments portfolio, in line with service level agreements. The post may support various sites across the county in a predetermined geographical area, and may provide cover for staff absences or priority workloads elsewhere.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake semi‑skilled repair and maintenance tasks – e.g. unblocking toilets, clearing drains, collecting debris and waste, plumbing, tiling, painting, joinery, and other tasks as required.
  • Assist the multi‑trade skilled workforce with repair and maintenance tasks across all disciplines.
  • Carry out general labouring, grounds clearing, site maintenance and cleaning across multiple buildings, working with the site facilities workforce when required.
  • Assist with office furniture removals and storage to support changes in county council business.
  • Maintain clean and tidy stock areas and support tradesmen with stock control reporting for maintenance operations support staff.
  • Conduct regular checks on vehicles used by FM staff – checking oil, water, tyres, and fuel, maintaining records of vehicle repairs and servicing, and ensuring all vehicles are secure at close of business.

Requirements

  • Full driving licence is required.
  • Business use only work vehicle will be provided with the role where required.
  • Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) background check will be required prior to offered employment.
