Ashton Community Science College, an 11‑16 mixed school rated Good by Ofsted in 2023, seeks a passionate pastoral leader to support the welfare and progression of a year group within a 4‑year rolling cycle. The role begins with Year 10, following the retirement of the current Year 9 Head of Year.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the pastoral care of a cohort of students, working closely with staff, families, and external support services.
  • Implement school procedures and mentoring techniques to support student welfare.
  • Address and manage emotional situations where students may become distressed.
  • Promote the school's high standards of behaviour, achievement, and well‑being.

Qualifications

  • A passion for supporting and managing young people that goes beyond mere qualifications.
  • Previous experience working with secondary‑age children in Education, Health, or social services.
  • Experience of working with families/carers and students accessing support services.
  • Knowledge of school procedures, practices, and techniques for mentoring students.
  • Experience dealing with emotional situations where students may become distressed.
  • An absolute commitment to achieving the highest of standards.
