The Director of Highways and Transport is responsible for ensuring that the County Council can exercise its functions, duties and powers under the Highways Act 1980 and the Traffic Management Act 2004. Notably, in respect of Highways Network Management, Highways Operations and Design, and Public and Integrated Transport.

The Grade 7 Executive Director Correspondence Officer provides confidential, effective, and efficient support to the Director of Highways and Transport, ensuring all procedures and services are completed to a high standard. The role will be high-level correspondence management requiring the handling of sensitive and complex issues and effective communication with a wide range of stakeholders, including elected officials and senior leaders.

There could be an expectation for the Executive Director Correspondence Officer to provide support to other Directors or assist in the Highways Enquiries team, covering annual leave and assisting the team with correspondence during busy periods when the volumes of enquiries, ensuring the objectives of the team are met and maintained on a daily basis.

We are looking for someone with strong organisational skills and attention to detail, to help the Director communicate effectively with key stakeholders. This is a demanding, diverse, and busy post. Excellent communication skills are essential as there is an expectation to interact with internal and external customers regularly as well as senior stakeholders.

Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
  • To act as a first point of contact dealing with highways correspondence for the Director and at times related telephone calls.
  • Draft routine and complex correspondence to a high standard ensuring complete record keeping on the relevant systems when required.
  • Understand the Executive Director’s business, hierarchy of contacts, local protocols, and priorities.
