Salary: £57,418 – £63,381 per annum | Position: Permanent, Full‑time (32.5 hours per week) | Location: Lancashire, term‑time

The Specialist Teaching Service is expanding sensory support for children with hearing, vision or multi‑sensory needs. We are seeking to appoint a Team Manager to lead and manage a combined sensory team of Specialist Teachers across Lancashire, supporting children with SEND, settings and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of QTVI/QTMSI/QToD specialist teachers.
  • Allocate and manage caseloads, while undertaking a reduced caseload personally.
  • Implement monitoring and evaluation strategies within the team.
  • Accountable for service delivery and staff development.
  • Contribute to Specialist Teaching Service strategic developments through manager meetings and supervision.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of VI & deafblind / MSI best practice, equipment, guidance and legislation.
  • Support children, young people with SEND and their parents/carers in home and educational settings.
  • Liaise with SENCOs, teachers and support staff in educational settings when necessary.
  • Assess children and young people to set appropriate outcomes.
  • Partner with educational settings, parents/carers and other agencies to meet outcomes outlined in Education, Health and Care Plans.
  • Manage a caseload effectively.
  • Use IT to support teaching and administration.

Qualifications

  • Strong moral SEND values and determination to make a difference.
  • Experience of managing a team through change.
  • Advocacy for the needs of children & young people who are visually impaired, deafblind, multisensory or D/deaf impaired.
  • Desirable experience of working in both mainstream and specialist settings.
  • Commitment to an inclusive approach to education.
  • Accountable for improving service delivery and outcomes for all children and young people.
  • Qualified Teacher for Visual Impairment or Multisensory Impairment, or significant SEND leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated evidence of working with children and young people with a range of special educational needs to ensure a high‑quality educational experience.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with SEND support users, families and schools/colleges.
  • Capability to provide and challenge various settings, establishing clear actions for all partners and evaluating progress.
  • Confident in modelling teaching approaches to staff across educational settings, all curriculum areas, and raising standards for children with SEND.
  • Not suitable for Early Career Teachers.
