Position Overview
St Charles’ Roman Catholic Primary School, Rishton, Blackburn, is looking for a skilled, enthusiastic and highly motivated Teaching Assistant to support children with additional SEND needs and to assist the class teacher in delivering high quality learning for EYFS, KS1 and KS2 pupils.

Hours and Term
Part‑time, 27 hours 5 minutes per week. Fixed‑term contract beginning 13 October 2025 or as soon as possible after that date, subject to funding. Working hours 8:45 am – 3:30 pm with lunchtime cover.
Compensation
Salary £25,185 to £25,989 (pro‑rata for full‑time equivalent, paid on a pro‑rata basis).
Role Summary
As a Teaching Assistant you will work alongside the class teacher to support children in early years during the morning and upper Key Stage 2 in the afternoon. You will also carry out welfare assistant duties and support extra‑curricular activities and school events.
Responsibilities
- Commit to upholding the school values, nurturing ethos and strong behaviour policy.
- Support children with SEND, providing targeted learning assistance.
- Be passionate about the learning and development of children and be willing to undertake additional training.
- Build positive relationships with children, teachers and families.
- Enhance learning opportunities for pupils.
- Work closely with the class teacher to ensure continuity of learning and quality first teaching.
- Commit to whole‑school life and support extra‑curricular activities.
Essential Qualifications
- Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
- Maths and English qualifications (at least level 1 or above).
Desirable Qualifications
- First Aid
- Safeguarding
- Prevent training
- Maths and English GCSE or equivalent
Essential Experience
- Previous teaching assistant role.
- Ability to support children with SEND and basic knowledge of SEND.
Desirable Experience
- Experience supporting children with additional needs.
- Experience working with other agencies to support children.
Health & Safety Requirements
