Do you want to make a real difference to young people's lives? This is a fantastic opportunity to 'Step into Youth Work'. The Targeted Youth Support team, part of Lancashire County Council's Children and Family Wellbeing Service, is looking to recruit Assistant Youth Support Workers for Preston & South Ribble District. Candidates should be enthusiastic, organized, and passionate about making a difference and changing young people’s lives.

Role Details: This position involves evening work, typically between 5pm to 9:30pm. The service contributes to Lancashire County Council's prevention and early intervention/early help agenda, providing high-quality informal education opportunities to support young people's personal and social development. It assists young people facing challenges in education, community, or home life to ensure a successful transition to adulthood.

About the Team and Benefits: The TYS team is the UK's largest employer of JNC qualified youth workers. We adhere to the Pink Book terms and conditions, offering additional leave due to unsocial hours. You may also opt into the Teachers Pension scheme.

Understanding Youth Work: Youth work focuses on personal and social development, emphasizing skills and attributes of young people rather than problem-solving. It involves engaging with young people to deepen their understanding of themselves, their community, and the world, supporting positive change.

  • Core youth work including detached/outreach work on streets
  • Special Educational Needs & Disability support for ages 11-19 (up to 25 if SEN)
  • Safe spaces and targeted youth places to meet community needs
  • Youth voice initiatives such as district youth councils linked to Lancashire Youth Council and regional/national work
  • Enhanced programs like LGBTQ+ groups and mental health support

As part of the role, you will be required to undertake your Level 2 Youth Work qualification. Lancashire County Council will support you in completing this, covering the course costs and time.
