The Targeted Youth Support team, part of Lancashire County Council's Children and Family Wellbeing Service, is looking to recruit 1 part-time Assistant Youth Support Worker to work in the North of Lancashire, specifically in Fylde & Wyre Districts. We seek enthusiastic, organised individuals who are passionate about making a difference in young people's lives.
This post involves evening work, usually between 6:30-9:30pm across two evenings. The Service contributes to the prevention and early intervention agenda for Lancashire County Council, enabling young people to succeed by providing high-quality informal education opportunities that promote personal and social development.
The Youth Worker’s role includes:
- Contributing to the delivery of youth work opportunities in centres, partner buildings, and communities.
- Working closely with other youth work staff and volunteers to maximise opportunities for young people.
- Initiating and developing relationships with 12 to 19-year-olds and up to 25-year-olds with vulnerabilities.
- Designing and developing youth work responses underpinned by the four cornerstones of youth work: equality, participation, education, and empowerment.
The focus is on personal and social development rather than 'fixing a problem'. It engages young people in a curriculum that deepens their understanding of themselves, their community, and the world, supporting them to bring about positive changes.
The Targeted Youth Support Team delivers core youth work, including:
- Detached/outreach working on the streets with young people.
- Working with young people with special educational needs (SEND).
- Providing safe spaces and targeted youth clubs.
- Supporting youth voice through district youth councils linked to Lancashire Youth Council.
- Offering enhanced programmes such as LGBTQ+ groups and mental health support groups.
