Overview

Lancashire Archives is an accredited archive service based in Preston, which looks after millions of historic documents – from medieval parchment charters to digital images of everyday life during the COVID pandemic - that together help tell our county\'s story over the last 900 years. We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic archive assistant who will help take care of and provide access to our wonderful collections.

About the role

As an archive assistant in the Lancashire Archives team, you will be helping to provide a high-quality archive service for Lancashire. Your work will include: welcoming customers and volunteers to our public searchroom and supporting them during their visit; responding to written, telephone and face to face enquiries from customers about our collections and the service we offer; using our collections management database to find information about our collections; taking part in outreach activities; supporting other Lancashire Archives teams deliver a range of services; producing archives from our strongrooms and returning them after use (we have 8 strongrooms containing a total of 10 miles of shelving); taking care of unique historical material.

This is a permanent post based at Lancashire Archives in Preston. The hours are 18 per week.
