Lancashire Constabulary is seeking an experienced and highly organised Fingerprint Bureau Manager to lead the delivery of forensic identification services within our Fingerprint Bureau based at Hutton Headquarters. The purpose of the Fingerprint Bureau Manager is to provide an efficient and effective forensic examination service by supervising, motivating and training staff in the Fingerprint Bureau, acting as an expert in one or more forensic disciplines and deputising in the absence of the Head of Forensic Operations. This is a critical role responsible for ensuring the effective management of fingerprint operations, maintaining high professional standards, and supporting criminal investigations through accurate and timely identification work. You will lead a specialist team, ensuring compliance with national standards and contributing to the force’s commitment to delivering justice and public safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • To provide an efficient and effective forensic examination service by supervising, motivating and training staff in the Fingerprint Bureau, acting as an expert in one or more forensic disciplines and deputising in the absence of the Head of Forensic Operations.
  • Monitor submissions and resources, providing relevant management information to the Head of Forensic Operations and SSD SLT and continually re-examine how we meet increased demand.
  • Interpret and communicate scientific findings and opinion-based findings effectively in the context of the case via SFR, statements, reports and attend court where required as an Expert Witness in Fingerprint Comparison.

Skills And Experience

  • Degree or equivalent (e.g. membership of a relevant professional body or at least 10 years’ experience of working within a Forensic Unit) in a Science Discipline.
  • Have successfully completed Fingerprint Expert training.
  • Hold a full valid UK manual driving licence and be willing to undertake and pass the Constabulary Basic Driver Assessment prior to driving a Constabulary Vehicle.

Vetting And Medical

Please be aware, as a condition of your appointment you must undergo and pass Recruitment Vetting. Please be aware there is a minimum 3 year UK residency requirement for Recruitment vetting and you must be 18 years old at the point of applying. Successful applicants will also be subject to a medical assessment. Upon successful appointment as per the job specification, you will be required to provide your DNA for elimination purposes, this will be held against the Contamination Elimination Database (CED). Please note, candidates successful at shortlisting will be required to undertake an assessment as part of the interview process. This will consist of a Fingerprint aptitude test - approx 3 hours.
