Lancashire Constabulary is looking for a Firearms Enquiry Officer to join our team at Hutton Headquarters. The purpose of this role is to conduct all enquiries in relation to grant, renewal and continued holding of all certificates, authorities, licences and permits regulating the lawful possession of and trade in firearms and explosives, ensuring that no danger to public safety or peace arises from such possession or trade. The officer will also support the Firearms Team Leader with all administrative work within the department.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish contact, visit and interview applicants and other parties with information relevant to the grant, variation or renewal of firearms and explosives certificates, licences and permits required by relevant legislation.
- Identify matters relevant to personal suitability of applicants to preserve public safety and peace during interviews and inspections.
- Conduct land examinations as required, within the force area, and arrange examinations in other force areas when necessary.
- Serve notices of revocation or partial revocation, seize relevant firearm, ammunition, shotguns, convey to secure storage and complete recording processes as required, arranging disposal or return of weapons after resolution.
- Assist in obtaining and executing warrants under firearms legislation, seize evidence, convey to secure storage and complete recording, arranging disposal or return after the incident.
- Identify criminal offences revealed during routine enquiries and initiate detailed reports for further action.
Role Requirements
- Successfully completed the National Firearm Enquiry Officer Course, or able to complete within 12 months of appointment.
- Successfully completed the Explosives Liaison Officer’s Course, or able to complete within 12 months of appointment.
- Undergo and pass recruitment vetting, meeting a minimum 3‑year UK residency requirement and be at least 18 years old.
- Undergo a medical assessment and provide DNA for elimination purposes.
