Overview

Case Builders are the vital link between the Police and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), ensuring that justice is delivered effectively and efficiently. Acting as the post-charge conduit, they play a pivotal role in preparing cases for court by working closely with officers and CPS prosecutors to present the strongest possible case. As Disclosure Officers, Case Builders take responsibility for managing all unused material generated during an investigation. They meticulously collate, review, and schedule this material, ensuring compliance with disclosure obligations. Any evidence that could assist or undermine the case is identified and highlighted to the CPS, safeguarding fairness and transparency. This role demands a proactive mindset and exceptional attention to detail. Case Builders interrogate every aspect of the case, from statements and forensic results to CCTV footage, body-worn video, 999 calls, and interview notes. Their ability to anticipate what the CPS needs to prove the case is critical to securing convictions and bringing offenders to justice.
