An exciting opportunity for an experienced clinical pharmacist with a specialist interest in mental health to join our expanding and highly supportive inpatient team as a Senior Clinical Pharmacist, providing professional and clinical leadership to the inpatient pharmacy team. The post is based at The Harbour Hospital in Blackpool and covers a diverse range of mental health wards including psychiatric intensive care units, acute adult mental health wards, older adult advanced care and dementia wards, and a Section 136 suite. This key role allows you to influence high‑quality medicines optimisation, contribute to service development, and work within a dynamic multidisciplinary environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a Non‑Medical Prescribing role.
  • Plan pharmaceutical care and conduct clinical review of prescriptions.
  • Involve service users in decisions about their medicines to optimise treatment, support adherence, and improve outcomes.
  • Provide specialist pharmaceutical advice to the multidisciplinary team.
  • Offer clinical supervision and professional leadership to other team members.
  • Provide expert medicines management advice and ensure appropriate governance arrangements for the management of medicines, including monitoring prescribing and medicines use.
  • Attend strategic network meetings, including locality governance meetings.
  • Actively contribute to and deliver the Trust’s medicines optimisation strategy.

Qualifications

  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Hold a postgraduate qualification or have equivalent experience.
  • Significant post‑registration experience in a mental health setting.
  • Non‑Medical Prescribing qualification is desirable; applicants willing to work towards this will also be considered.
  • Additional support is available for further development, including the Aston University distance‑learning Postgraduate Certificate in Psychiatric Therapeutics (accredited by the College of Mental Health Pharmacy), subject to availability and approval.
