Are you an experienced engineering professional with a strong commercial mindset and a passion for delivering accurate, competitive proposals? We are seeking a Proposals Engineer to join our growing team at our Burnside facility. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in supporting business growth by developing high-quality quotations and cost estimates for both new and existing customers.
You will work closely with engineering, operational, and commercial teams to ensure proposals are technically sound, commercially competitive, and aligned with customer requirements.
The Role
As a Proposals Engineer, you will be responsible for the development, execution, tracking, and communication of quotation and estimating activities across a range of engineering services. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Producing quotations for the manufacture of a variety of loose gear products.
- Preparing quotations for gearbox and pump refurbishment projects.
- Interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation to develop accurate cost estimates.
- Preparing detailed cost breakdowns covering labour, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and overheads where applicable.
- Conducting risk and opportunity assessments and making recommendations to senior management.
- Liaising with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations and evaluate proposals.
- Collaborating with managers, engineers, and commercial teams to ensure estimates reflect realistic delivery plans and operational requirements.
- Presenting estimates and commercial recommendations to support bid and no-bid decisions.
- Supporting value engineering initiatives by identifying opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining quality and performance.
- Ensuring all proposals comply with company procedures, industry standards, and customer requirements.

About You
We're looking for someone who combines technical understanding with strong commercial awareness and excellent attention to detail. You will ideally have:
- Experience in estimating within a service-based engineering environment or a related industry.
- A strong understanding of engineering processes, materials, and industry pricing structures.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with cost modelling and data analysis.
- Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong commercial judgement and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to manage multiple quotations and deadlines simultaneously.
- Relevant engineering qualifications or experience in a related discipline.
Desirable
- Previous experience working as a machinist within a mechanical engineering workshop.
- Experience within gearbox, pump refurbishment, machining, or general mechanical engineering sectors.
- Relevant engineering qualification or equivalent industry experience.
