Lamond & Murray are now recruiting! We are currently seeking a Proposals Engineer to join our L&M team based in Burnside. Reporting to the Operations Managers, this role is key to the development, execution, tracking, and communication of quotations for both new and existing customers.
You will take ownership of the estimating and proposal process from initial enquiry through to final submission, working closely with technical, operational, and commercial teams to produce accurate, competitive, and compliant cost proposals aligned with business objectives.
As our Proposals Engineer you will be responsible for:
- Producing quotations for the manufacture of a wide variety of loose gears
- Preparing quotations for gearbox and pump refurbishment work
- Interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation
- Developing accurate and detailed cost breakdowns for labour, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and overheads where applicable
- Carrying out risk and opportunity assessments, providing commercial recommendations to senior management
- Liaising with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain and evaluate competitive quotations
- Collaborating with managers, engineers, and commercial teams to ensure realistic delivery strategies
- Presenting estimates and support bid / no-bid decision-making
- Contributing to value engineering initiatives, identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality
- Ensuring all proposals comply with company policies, industry standards, and client requirements
You will be commercially aware, highly organised, and confident working within a service-based engineering environment.
What We're Looking For
- Experience in estimating or proposals within a service-based engineering or related sector
- Strong understanding of engineering methods, materials, and industry pricing trends
- Proficient in Excel, cost modelling, and data analysis
- Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple bids under tight deadlines
- Relevant engineering or related qualification
