Laminar Projects is proud to be recognised as one of the UK’s Best Workplaces in Construction, Engineering & Property for 2024! Join a team where learning, collaboration, and growth are at the core of everything we do, and where solving big challenges is part of the fun.

This is a hybrid role which will combine remote working with site presence in client projects.

This role is specifically for project professionals experienced in the Transmission and Distribution sector in the UK, preferably working on the developer/operator side, although experience working as a principal contractor will also be considered. The person will have built a demonstrable reputation in the sector, making past colleagues/stakeholders keen to work with them again.

You will lead the delivery of engagements, considered as a sector SME, at times leading and mentoring other team members to develop their sector capabilities and knowledge. You will also serve clients in some of Laminar's core disciplines such as planning and project controls.

You will support the growth of our services in the sector through developing proposals, winning strategies, and building successful client relationships and strategic partnerships.

This role is part of our Project Management Consultancy which focuses on:

  • Understanding what the real problems of projects are
  • Implementing the best solutions to those problems
  • Developing scalable best practices, tools, and technology

Your top 3 objectives:

  1. To make construction projects deliver to near perfection
  2. To create scalable and repeatable solutions to common problems
  3. To develop yourself and everyone around you

Your top 5 responsibilities:

  1. Own the project plan for one or more projects and ensure that the project is working to it effectively. Ensure delays are mitigated and managed commercially.
  2. You may not be the project manager ultimately responsible for the results, but you are responsible for ensuring the project’s understanding and focus on the plan.
  3. Provide simple actionable reports to stakeholders at all levels that help them deliver their part of the project more efficiently and effectively.
  4. Develop scalable and repeatable best practices and tools in collaboration with the team so that long-term impact is achieved.
  5. Maximise the development of your team personally and professionally and educate our clients to improve as well.

You are an experienced project manager in construction project management with a minimum of 7 years' experience working on UK transmission and distribution projects with a good level of understanding of sector-specific requirements and processes.

Must-Have (The fundamentals):

  • Construction engineering background with experience on construction projects.
  • Proficient communicator in written and verbal English.
  • Ability to lead yourself proactively and lead others by asking the right questions and challenging them.
  • A track record of making projects and organisations better beyond just doing the basics.

Nice to Have (If you don’t have it now you will be trained intensively after joining):

  • Decent Excel skills and a strong interest in data, experience in project planning both software and principles.
  • The charisma, influence, and presence to get construction people to do new things and take the best approach.
  • A proven leader/coach/developer of teams.
  • A track record of implementing scalable and repeatable solutions in projects and organisations that had a significant positive impact.

Laminar isn’t the place for you if any of the following is true:

  • You want an easy, chilled-out role without much challenge.
  • You like to be the smartest person in the room.
  • You don’t like continuously receiving honest candid feedback.
  • You prefer to do your own thing rather than work with a team.

At Laminar, we value diverse experiences and perspectives, empowering each member to contribute their unique expertise towards our collective success, so if you don’t think you meet all the criteria but are still excited about this role, we encourage you to apply anyway!

Salary and Benefits:

  • Competitive salary dependent on location and capability.
  • Paid Annual Leave 25 days + statutory Bank Holidays.
  • Pension (Match contribution up to 7%).
  • Private health insurance.
  • In-house coaching sessions.
  • Discretionary bonus scheme for all team members.

Flexibility: Getting things done is what really matters, not what time of day you do it. That means you don’t have to ask permission for things like picking up your kids or going to the doctor, just keep your team in the loop if you think they will be affected.

Grow your whole self: Our leaders are more like coaches, and one of our main objectives is to give 5 years’ worth of learning and development for every 1 year with us. You have a coach, mentor, well-being therapist, and a development-oriented environment.

Be surrounded by the best: We only hire and retain the very best people. You will be surrounded by people you can learn from. We are 100% meritocratic so fast progression is the norm.

Long-term impact: We are focused on solving the biggest issues in construction project delivery in a way that can spread and outlast us.

Application:

We get thousands of applications so please write us a letter as part of your application explaining:

  • Why do you want to join us?
  • If you joined, where do you think you could make the most impact and how?

You must be located and have the current right to work in the UK/EU. We can support the transfer of existing UK visas, but cannot sponsor new visas.

In terms of application, we usually start with an intro call to tell you what we are all about in a casual conversation.
