Job Title: SHE Advisor (Days Monday - Friday)
£40,000 per annum
Department: Safety, Health and Environmental
Reports to: Safety, Health and Environmental Manager
Overall Role PurposeTo provide support to the operational team by delivering competent SHE guidance, ensuring legal and company compliance, driving continuous improvement, and promoting a positive safety culture across all activities. Acting as a trusted advisor, the position helps reduce risk, prevent incidents, and strengthen the organisation’s overall SHE performance by supporting the SHE Manager.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities SHE Governance & Assurance- Provide independent assurance that site activities comply with SHE policies, legal requirements, and environmental permit conditions.
- Conduct SHE audits, inspections, and compliance reviews across operational areas.
- Monitor the implementation and effectiveness of risk controls developed by operational teams.
- Support operational teams in the investigation of accidents, near misses, and environmental incidents
- Support preparation for regulatory inspections, customer audits, and certification audits.
- Maintain SHE management system documentation and records.
- Track corrective actions to ensure effective closure and organisational learning.
- Support the implementation and continual improvement of the site Environmental Management System in accordance with ISO 14001 and the site Energy Management System in accordance with ISO 50001.
- Assist in identifying opportunities to improve environmental performance and energy efficiency.
- Support monitoring and reporting of energy performance indicators (EnPIs) and environmental metrics.
- Support compliance with the site environmental permit and relevant environmental legislation.
- Monitor environmental performance including effluent discharges, waste management, emissions, and resource use.
- Support the investigation and management of environmental incidents or permit deviations.
- Coach and support managers and supervisors in fulfilling their SHE responsibilities.
- Provide guidance on risk management, safe systems of work, and environmental compliance.
- Challenge unsafe practices and support operational teams to identify practical solutions.
- Provide recommendations for improvement.
- Promote a positive safety and environmental culture across the site.
- Support safety campaigns, behavioural safety initiatives, and workforce engagement programmes.
- Participate in site safety committees and improvement projects.
- Support the delivery of SHE training, inductions, and awareness sessions.
Key attributes
- Strong communication, coaching, and influencing skills.
- Ability to support operational ownership of SHE
- Good understanding of risk management and compliance within manufacturing environments.
- Ability to analyse and interpret SHE, environmental, and energy performance data.
- Practical and solutions-focused approach.
- Experience supporting ISO 50001 or energy management initiatives – desirable
- IOSH membership or working towards – desirable
- Experience in manufacturing / food processing / FMCG environment preferred
