About the role
Weâre looking for an experienced health and safety professional to help us raise performance across the Council. As a Health & Safety Advisor, youâll deliver the operational Corporate Health & Safety service, contribute to our Health & Safety Strategy and Management System, and work collaboratively with leaders and managers across Lambeth to drive continuous improvement in health, safety and wellbeing. You will also deputise for the Corporate Health & Safety Manager when required. This will require an enhanced DBS check.
What you will do
- Audit & assurance: Plan and complete management system audits and workplace inspections as part of the Councilâs audit programme; support directors and senior managers with performance reporting.
- Policy & guidance: Develop, implement and monitor health & safety policy, procedures, systems and guidance across safetyâcritical and statutory areas; support contractor/supplier/partner H&S processes.
- Risk management: Strengthen the use of risk assessments to ensure significant risks are proportionately assessed and recorded; investigate serious incidents and advise on local or corporate actions.
- Training & capability: Design, deliver and evaluate H&S training (including eâlearning); maintain and develop online H&S information systems used by the team.
- Engagement & representation: Act as a competent adviser in consultations/negotiations with Trade Unions; liaise with the HSE and sector bodies; participate in projects and working groups.
About you
- Qualifications: NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) and certified IOSH membership; committed to CPD with excellent, current knowledge of H&S law, regulations and best practice across diverse risks. An ISO 45001 Lead Auditor qualification would be ideal.
- Experienced: Proven track record of competent H&S advice in the public sector or other large multiâsite organisations; confident conducting inspections and audits in complex settings.
- Skilled communicator: Able to produce clear reports/procedures and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels; strong deâescalation, interpersonal and influencing skills.
- Digital capability: Competent with Microsoft Office and online H&S software.
