We are looking for an enthusiastic, ambitious and highly organised Junior Criminal Clerk to join our team.

Location: Brighton

Lamb Building is a leading common law set with barristers in London and Brighton with a strong reputation across Criminal, Family and Civil law. The successful candidate will be based in Brighton but may be expected to work in London on occasion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage barristers’ diaries with a proactive and commercially aware approach.
  • Communicate with Crown, Coroners’ and Magistrates’ Courts regarding listings, hearing dates, information requests.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for solicitors and clients, providing guidance on barrister availability and suitability.
  • Assist with fee negotiations and effective case allocation across criminal matters.
  • Adhere to chambers’ clerking standards, systems and procedures; while contributing to their ongoing improvement.
  • Respond to telephone calls in a prompt and professional manner; and assist with welcoming visitors where required.

Requirements

  • Approximately 3+ years’ experience in criminal clerking.
  • Strong understanding of criminal practice, court listing procedures and legal aid billing.
  • Familiarity with Lex (Opus 2) or similar case management systems.
  • Excellent organisational and communication abilities.
  • Confident IT skills with the ability to work across multiple systems.
  • The ability to work well under pressure and keep a level head in stressful situations.
  • The ability to use initiative and get ahead of problems before they arise.
