Responsibilities
- Preparing bacteriological media for laboratory tests
- Performing microbiological testing on materials, intermediates and finished products following customer and company requirements
- Testing samples for lactic acid bacteria counts, yeast counts and extraneous bacteria
- Perform HPLC and other laboratory tests according to written protocols and record results appropriately
- Ensuring that site microbiological testing is performed following ISO 9001 / FAMIQS standards
- Maintaining and calibrating all microbiological laboratory equipment while following SOPs
- Providing knowledge and expertise for taking microbiological samples
- Performing environmental monitoring as required
Qualifications and Skills
- Technical skills Required: Degree or HNC/HND level or above in Microbiology, Applied Biology, Biochemistry or similar
- An asset: Experience of working within a Quality System such as ISO 9001, GLP, GMP, FAMIQS
- Some experience of working in a microbiology laboratory
- Other: NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in instrumentation or engineering discipline
Personal Abilities
- Organise time effectively
- Self-starter, able to work independently
- Ability to work productively in a small team
General Criteria
- An asset: Full UK driving license
- Some weekend work (for an hour or so) - not every weekend
