Lakeland Dairies Co-operative Society Limited (The Group) is the second largest dairy processor on the island of Ireland. The Group’s Agribusiness Division (Lakeland Agri) operates a state-of-the-art Animal Feed Manufacturing Facility and is a leading and innovative provider of the highest quality feeds and agricultural inputs to dairy, beef and sheep farmers across the north and south of Ireland.

The Role:

Our new Health & Safety Officer is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing health and safety policies and procedures within the dairy processing/powder plant. The successful applicant will ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and foster a culture of safety among all employees. The officer will conduct regular inspections, risk assessments, and training sessions to mitigate potential hazards associated with dairy powder processing operations.

Key responsibilities will include (Not limited to):

  • Policy Development and Implementation: Develop and implement comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures specific to dairy powder processing operations.
  • Risk Assessment and Hazard Identification: Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards in the plant, including risks related to machinery, chemical handling, and powder processing.
  • Inspections and Audits: Perform regular inspections and safety audits of the facility to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Training and Education: Develop and deliver health and safety training programs for all employees, including new hires and contractors.
  • Incident Investigation and Reporting: Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including procedures for fires, chemical spills, and other potential emergencies.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on changes to health and safety legislation relevant to the dairy processing industry.
  • Continuous Improvement: Promote a culture of continuous improvement by encouraging proactive safety initiatives and employee involvement.

The person:

To be successful in this role applicants shall require:

  • A 3rd level qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science or a related subject.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience from within a Health and Safety related role.
  • In-depth knowledge of Health & Safety regulations and best practices.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving & communication skills.
  • The ability to develop and deliver effective training programs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages & safety management software.
  • A NESBOSH/IOSH certification and/or an understanding of food manufacturing would be advantageous.
