About the Role
We are looking for an exceptional General Manager to lead our prestigious Inn On The Square, located in the heart of Keswick. This is an outstanding opportunity to manage one of the Lake District’s most charming boutique hotels, which overlooks the historic market square in one of England’s most beautiful areas.
This hands-on leadership role requires you to lead from the front. As General Manager, you will be actively involved in daily operations while also being responsible for the strategic direction and financial success of this unique property. You will work alongside your team, be visible to guests, and ensure our visitors have an unforgettable experience in the Lake District through your direct involvement and leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Management
- Take a hands-on approach to hotel operations, working directly with front office, housekeeping, food & beverage, and maintenance teams
- Be visible and accessible to both guests and staff, leading by example on the floor
- Personally ensure exceptional guest service standards are maintained and exceeded
- Actively participate in daily operations while managing to maximize revenue, profitability, and guest satisfaction
- Implement and maintain quality assurance programs through direct involvement and observation
- Drive revenue growth through effective sales and marketing strategies
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing team across all departments
- Recruit, train, and retain top talent in line with company values
- Foster a positive working culture that promotes employee engagement and excellence
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching and development
Guest Experience
- Maintain the highest standards of guest service and satisfaction
- Handle escalated guest issues with professionalism and efficiency
- Continuously improve the guest experience through innovation and attention to detail
- Monitor and respond to online reviews and feedback
Essential Requirements
Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in senior hotel management, preferably in a General Manager role
- Proven track record in boutique or independent hotel operations
- Strong commercial acumen with P&L responsibility
- Excellent leadership and people management skills
Skills & Competencies
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities
- Proficiency in hotel management systems and Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of health & safety, licensing, and hospitality regulations
- Ability to work flexibly including evenings, weekends, and holidays
