Hello, we're Laka. Founded in 2017, Laka set out to transform insurance by connecting passionate cyclists to form a collective and protect their bikes for when things go wrong - a better model for insurance was born. Our model ensures everything runs smoothly for The Collective, from exceptionally fast claims to splitting the cost fairly.
We’re growing rapidly on our path to make the Laka collective model the industry standard and we’re expanding across segments, products, and territories. We’re looking for innovative, bold and brave minds to help us build the world’s best insurance company.
The role: We are looking for a Financial Accountant to join us three days a week. This is a hands-on role for someone who wants real ownership of core finance processes at a scaling business, without the always-on pace of a full-time role. Reporting into our Financial Controller and working closely with the wider Finance team, you will support the day-to-day rigour that keeps Laka’s finances accurate, timely, and audit-ready across three markets.
This is a fantastic fit for someone part-way through their accountancy qualifications, or a Qualified by Experience professional looking for meaningful responsibility alongside the flexibility of a three-day week. We support hybrid work from our offices in London, Bristol and Amsterdam or fully remote working from the UK, Netherlands or France.
What you'll do:
- Month-End Ownership: Assist with the month-end close, including journals, reconciliations, accruals and prepayments.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and maintain consolidated management accounts and supporting schedules.
- Commercial Support: Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to help guide business decisions.
- Audit & Compliance: Manage balance sheet reconciliations and ensure a clean, well-documented audit trail. Assist with the preparation of statutory accounts and group audit schedules.
- Regulatory & Industry Reporting: Support with underwriter bordereau reports and FCA submissions (full training on insurance-specific reporting will be provided).
- International Operations: Help manage multi-currency and multi-entity transactions across the UK, Netherlands, and France.
- Tax Compliance: Support VAT and tax compliance across jurisdictions, collaborating with local advisors where needed.
- Process & Technology Optimisation: Identify and implement opportunities to leverage AI tools and automation to streamline routine finance workflows, reduce manual data entry and enhance efficiency.
- Systems Evolution: Play a key supporting role in our migration to a new ERP system in Q4 2026.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Partner with teams like People and Ops on finance queries and reporting needs.
Requirements:
- Flexible Qualifications: Fully qualified (ACCA / CIMA / ACA/ RA), part-qualified and actively studying, or Qualified by Experience with a strong track record in a similar finance role.
- Technical Core: A solid grounding in month-end close, reconciliations and management accounts.
- Autonomous & Organised: Highly self-directed and comfortable managing your own workload effectively.
- Exceptional Precision: Unwavering attention to detail.
- Strong Communicator: A clear communicator who can translate financial data for non-finance colleagues.
- Process-Minded: Able to identify areas for improvement and bring structure to an evolving business environment.
- Bonus Points: Experience in a scale-up, insurance, or regulated environment is a plus.
Benefits:
- Remote/ Hybrid way of working.
- Share options.
- Company bonus scheme.
- Annual leave - 25 days holiday (plus bank holidays).
- Pension scheme - Laka pays 3% of your base salary into your pension.
- Private medical insurance.
- Monthly lunch on us.
- Company-wide events.
- Monthly socials.
- Laka swag.
- Laka credit for cyclists.
- Mental health support.
