We are looking for an experienced, committed and enthusiastic Valuer to join us at an exciting time of business expansion and growth. Responsible for making honest and accurate appraisals of our client and company precious jewellery or luxury watch items for varying purposes, you will further offer unique client experiences, develop a broad client base, whilst upholding our brand standards and values.

We will offer our successful candidate rare opportunities to expand on their foundational knowledge and qualification, by providing training and development and accreditations within the area of Valuation. Based in the heart of Glasgow, you will assist across 37.5 hours a week, 5 days out of 6, Monday to Saturday.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Advise our esteemed customers of our offerings of the Valuation Service while imparting information on our broader department offerings, including servicing and design.
  • In line with regulations, conduct valuations on customer jewellery and watches to include personalised documentation including photographs, descriptions and relevant valuation type.
  • Access relevant resources, to source information and liaise with valuer network across the UK.
  • Host valuation days with our Showroom colleagues regularly and support with internal training.
  • Collaborate with our Jewellery Designers and Buying team to provide advice on stone sourcing, identification and quality.
  • Enthusiastically host client talks and events, consistently aim to promote Laings Valuations service offerings.
  • Provide an exemplary and personal experience to all clients by upholding brand standards in all areas.
  • Build strong relationships with clients to develop a repeat customer base.
  • Use extensive knowledge to produce accurate estimates for clients within Laings company guidelines.
  • Educate our wider business areas on Watch and Jewellery Valuation.
  • Contribute to our internal standard reviews and seek to identify development opportunities to improve operations.

Person Specification:

  • Possess at least 5 years of experience within the jewellery industry.
  • Possess a Gemmology qualification or equivalent.
  • Have excellent knowledge and understanding of antique and second‑hand jewellery.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a positive attitude to change and development.
  • Outstanding customer service skills with demonstrable experience of building effective relationships with external and internal partners.
  • Time management with the ability to prioritise workload.
  • Self‑motivated with the confidence to work independently but also part of a team.
  • Advanced understanding and application of knowledge in diamond and gemstones, along with all setting and jewellery styles.
  • Keenness with a willingness to learn along with skills in coaching and training others.
  • Extremely well organised and able to manage conflicting priorities in a timely manner.
