The Senior Commercial Manager Opportunity

Laing O'Rourke are currently recruiting a Senior Commercial Manager to join the team working across projects in Grimsby.

We have been appointed as construction partner for National Grid's Great Grid Partnership programme, which forms part of a supply chain framework that will also support infrastructure projects beyond 2030.

What will the role look like?

  • Lead the commercial management of a major project, driving commercial strategy, performance and delivery.
  • Manage live subcontract packages, overseeing commercial performance, change, valuations, payments, contractual obligations and final accounts.
  • Lead subcontractor procurement, administration, negotiation and account settlement.
  • Drive effective change control, ensuring variations are identified, valued, negotiated and commercially recovered.
  • Identify, manage and mitigate commercial risks while maximising opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide expert contractual and commercial advice to project teams, clients and key stakeholders.
  • Lead interim applications, valuations, payments, claims and commercial agreements, protecting contractual entitlements.
  • Oversee commercial reporting, including contract reviews, cost forecasting and Business Plan Review (BPR) submissions.
  • Lead, mentor and develop the wider Commercial team, providing guidance and support to Commercial Managers, Senior Quantity Surveyors, Quantity Surveyors and Assistant Quantity Surveyors.
  • Build strong relationships and negotiate effectively with clients, subcontractors and consultants to achieve positive commercial outcomes.
  • Ensure robust contract governance, risk management and commercial controls are maintained throughout the project lifecycle.

What skills & experience are we looking for?

  • Experience managing live subcontract packages under NEC contracts.
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying; RICS membership is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience working on power, energy or infrastructure projects.
  • The ability to manage commercial risk while driving project performance.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to lead commercial performance and manage risk effectively.
