Overview
Are you passionate about environmental sustainability in delivering projects and making a significant impact in a forward‑thinking, innovative company? Do you have experience supporting projects to meet stringent environmental requirements? Have you delivered in the defence/justice sector and achieved DREAM or BREEAM? If you want to be involved in exciting projects, this is the opportunity for you. You will be part of an exciting project supporting several schemes currently in the pre‑construction and delivery phase.
Location: Sale, Manchester – nationwide travel will be required as you will support national frameworks.
What the role looks like
The ideal candidate will have an interest and passion in environmental management and sustainability, and a desire to develop their career in the construction industry. You will engage with a range of people and situations, bring energy and enthusiasm, and have a strong willingness to learn. Day‑to‑day you will:
- Support the business in driving our ambitions to push the boundaries of sustainability, helping us to achieve our ambition to be a net‑zero company delivering nature‑positive solutions with a diverse team.
- Assure compliance with the LOR Energy and Environmental Management System.
- Support our project teams to embed our clients’ and our own sustainability requirements within the project.
- Identify environmental risks and opportunities and engage with the project team to ensure these are appropriately managed.
- Identify relevant consents required to deliver the scheme, engage with the relevant consent‑granting body, and achieve consent in line with the project programme.
- Engage with specialist environmental contractors to manage relevant environmental risks.
- Review, advise and deliver environmental training required for project staff and operatives.
- Engage with the workforce around environmental issues.
- Develop and implement the Construction Environmental Management Plan, identifying relevant risks and opportunities and ensuring it is updated and maintained to identify the specific environmental risks and associated mitigation measures.
- Ensure that a Resource Management Plan is developed, implemented and maintained to manage waste, and includes appropriate responsibilities, waste targets and legal compliance information.
- Collate and report on environmental performance.
- Monitor the performance of projects through routine environmental inspections and check that monitoring arrangements are in place to meet the environmental requirements.
- Promote environmental initiatives aligned with our sustainability strategy, such as carbon reduction, waste minimisation and nature protection.
- Ensure that appropriate environmental emergency arrangements are implemented and tested as appropriate.
- Participate in management reviews and audits of the status, adequacy and effectiveness of the project or establishment Environmental Management Plan.
- Report and investigate environmental incidents and non‑conformances and subsequent corrective actions.
Qualifications and Skills
- High level of personal drive and commitment, with effective goal‑setting ability.
- Capability to meet deadlines and prioritise activities.
- Ability to take strategic views of environmental requirements and agree and implement resultant plans.
- Experience delivering DREAM and/or BREEAM is highly desirable, however not essential.
- Positive approach to change, helping others to become receptive and responsive to change.
- Technical familiarity with an extensive range of environmental processes and procedures.
- Logical and well‑organised with the ability to prioritise.
- Effective communication at all management levels and the ability to build and maintain good working relationships.
- Understanding of ISO14001 and ISO50001 requirements and management of compliance with Management Systems.
- Relevant undergraduate degree in Environmental Management, Sustainability, Environmental Sciences or similar.
- Membership of ISEP, IES or IEEM (minimum practitioner or equivalent desired).
