The Opportunity: Laing O'Rourke has an opportunity for a Senior Design Manager to join our Life Sciences and Healthcare portfolio across the country. The role can be based at any of our offices including Dartford, Sale, Leeds, Newcastle, St Neots, Glasgow, or the factory in Worksop.
A Senior Design Manager leads the delivery of effective design across multiple projects or a large-scale project, focusing on pre-construction design processes, liaising with clients, design teams, bid teams, and operations. The role ensures technical excellence, assurance, and performance across all projects, from pre-project to detailed delivery, maximizing the potential of design to increase certainty on our projects.
What will the role look like?
- Leading pre-construction briefing and design processes.
- Managing design procedures, linking commercial, construction, and design teams.
- Enabling collaborative design challenge and interrogation.
- Controlling and distributing design information at various project stages.
- Reporting on design progress.
- Reviewing design information for buildability, safety, maintainability, compliance, and technical suitability.
- Promoting innovation in design management, methodology, processes, and practices.
- Aligning activities with the company's vision and values.
Technical Capabilities:
- Creating and owning the design brief.
- Design for Manufacture and Assembly.
- Information and Change Control.
- Design compliance.
Skills & Experience:
- First degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant construction-related qualification with design experience.
- Approximately 10 years' experience, sector specialization, and international experience managing design in construction or building services projects.
