The Engineering Surveyor position sits within the Quality team at Explore Manufacturing, with strong links to Engineering and Production teams at the facility, and the Surveying Function within Laing O'Rourke. The role exists to provide specialist expertise in surveying and scanning technology and techniques, and to use these methods to provide certainty in the quality of our end products. This will involve verification of mouldage solutions, validation of the final product, interpreting results, and professionally reporting findings to the various teams, helping manage quality risks and driving improvements.
As the local subject-matter-expert on surveying techniques, you will:
- Provide expert guidance on surveying techniques and equipment, and support the Quality Manager in defining the overall Scanning/Surveying strategy for CEMC.
- Manage and implement the ongoing surveying/scanning requirements for the Explore Manufacturing facility, ensuring best value and quality service provided, based on the current factory and client requirements.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge on modern surveying and digital techniques and implement them in the factory where they provide value to the business.
- Provide dimensional control and survey of the mouldage/as-built pre-cast units where necessary, and any other associated operations as agreed with the CEMC team.
- Analyse surveying and scanning data, reporting findings, including interpretation and relevant recommendations to engineering and manufacturing teams.
- Use 3D modelling to develop methods, clarify issues and resolve method-related problems.
- Check dimensional design data early, raising technical queries to eliminate delays from insufficient information.
- Ensure that appropriate as-built surveys are undertaken, correctly recorded, and communicated.
- Manage the survey equipment ensuring it is suitable for the works and in calibration so that there are no dimensional control errors and there is continuation of service.
- Collate and file quality records, where required, for potential inclusion in quality assurance documentation.
- Support quality control checks using internal check sheets, to include pre-pour and post-pour checks, and effectively manage the risk of non-conforming product.
- Raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) for all non-conformances discovered during surveying activities and report potential non-conformances when in doubt.
- Apply the company and external technical information to help achieve the specified manufacturing requirements e.g. manufacturing tolerance and acceptable standards.
- Prepare calculations/drawings/sketches as required.
- Actively facilitate and drive positive learning opportunities in the facility.
- Adopt and promote the company health and safety culture and that of “right first time.”
What skills & experience are we looking for?
- Good knowledge and practical experience in Engineering Surveying, including laser scanning of complex geometries.
- Knowledge of construction/manufacturing methods, best practice, and innovation.
- Competent in the use of surveying software packages.
- Degree in Engineering or Surveying.
- Knowledge of pre-cast concrete products and standards.
- Good understanding of client quality requirements within the construction industry.
- Knowledge of temporary works systems.
- Awareness of the design process for construction.
- Knowledge in health and safety risk management and wellbeing.
