Are you looking for an opportunity to shape the future of SAP within a business that is transforming the way technology supports complex projects and operations?

We're looking for a Senior Technical Analyst to help drive business improvement, platform modernisation, and the effective use of SAP and related manufacturing systems.

Laing O'Rourke's IT function has renewed its strategy to support the company's ambition to transform the construction industry, making it more sustainable, more productive, and fit for the future.

Technology has a critical role to play in achieving this ambition.

Our focus is on applying digital capability in ways that genuinely matter, shaping how complex projects are delivered, how decisions are made, and how innovation improves outcomes for people, communities, and the environment.

Our mission is clear: to create a modern and resilient technology environment where trusted data informs every decision, AI enhances every process, and digital capability enables the organisation to operate with greater scale and productivity.

To deliver this, we are building a different kind of IT function, one that is trusted by the business, forward looking in its thinking, and deeply connected to operational outcomes.

We are looking for individuals who are curious, thoughtful, and motivated by contributing to work that has real industry impact.

The Opportunity

As a Senior Technical Analyst, you'll play a key role in shaping how SAP supports business processes, service delivery, and operational performance across the organisation.

Acting as the link between business stakeholders and technical delivery teams, you'll translate business needs into clear requirements and practical solutions that deliver measurable value.

Working closely with platform owners, engineers, delivery partners, and business stakeholders, you'll help ensure SAP capabilities are used effectively, processes are simplified, and technology investments remain aligned to long-term business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with stakeholders across the business to understand challenges, identify opportunities for improvement, and define business outcomes.
  • Translate business requirements into clear solution options, platform enhancements, and prioritised delivery plans.
  • Collaborate with SAP engineers and delivery teams to design solutions that maximise standard SAP functionality and minimise unnecessary customisation.
  • Support the full delivery lifecycle, from discovery and requirements definition through to testing, deployment, and operational handover.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, standardise, automate, and optimise business processes across SAP and associated manufacturing systems.
  • Contribute to platform roadmaps, capability assessments, process models, governance activities, and future-state designs.
  • Ensure platform changes support operational readiness and can be effectively adopted by the business.
  • Promote continuous improvement and support the ongoing evolution of SAP capabilities across the organisation.

Essential Requirements

  • Strong experience working with SAP ECC6 and/or S/4HANA environments.
  • Proven expertise across key SAP modules such as SD, QM and PP.
  • Experience delivering SAP configuration, implementations, upgrades and enhancements.
  • Solid understanding of SAP technical components including ABAP, interfaces and custom development.
  • Experience translating business requirements into effective technology solutions and platform improvements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance business needs and technical considerations.
  • Understanding of enterprise applications, integrations, data flows, security considerations and platform dependencies.
  • Experience working with stakeholders across both business and IT functions.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation and documentation skills.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience with additional SAP modules including WM, MM, PM, DMS, EPP, MPS, FI/CO or CATS.
  • Experience working within manufacturing, engineering, construction or other project-based organisations.
  • Knowledge of SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), SAP Fiori and modern SAP architecture concepts.
  • Experience with SAP integration technologies, APIs, middleware and enterprise integration patterns.
  • Exposure to Manufacturing Systems, MES, shop-floor technology or operational technology environments.
  • Experience supporting digital transformation, platform modernisation or large-scale SAP programmes.
  • Relevant SAP certifications or business analysis qualifications.

What Makes This Role Compelling?

This is an opportunity to help shape the future direction of a critical enterprise platform while working at the intersection of business improvement and technology delivery.

You'll influence platform strategy, contribute to digital transformation initiatives and help deliver solutions that improve productivity, standardisation and operational performance across the organisation.

You’ll also have the opportunity to broaden your expertise across enterprise architecture, integrations, manufacturing systems, data and emerging technologies, including AI-enabled business capabilities.
