Graduate Manufacturing Digital Solutions Engineer

Location: Worksop, with occasional visits to anothermanufacturing facility in Oldbury

Help shape the future of manufacturing

At Explore Manufacturing, we're transforming the way complex construction components are designed, produced and delivered. Digital technology and data are an important part of that transformation, but successful change is also about people.

We're looking for a Graduate Manufacturing Digital Solutions Engineer who can build relationships, engage with people across our manufacturing environment and help turn everyday challenges into practical digital solutions.

You don't need to come from a particular degree discipline. We're much more interested in your curiosity, confidence with people, problem-solving ability and enthusiasm for using technology to make things better.

If you've had some experience with tools such as Power BI, Power Apps or the wider Microsoft Power Platform, that's a great starting point. Most importantly, we're looking for someone who can listen, ask good questions, understand what people need and work collaboratively to find better ways of doing things.

You will join the wider Laing O'Rourke Graduate Programme while gaining hands-on experience within our Digital Manufacturing team.

What you'll be doing

Working alongside experienced digital specialists, you'll spend time with colleagues across our manufacturing operations, understanding how they work and identifying where technology and data could make things better.

You will:

  • Build relationships with people across our manufacturing teams
  • Talk to colleagues about operational challenges and help identify opportunities for improvement
  • Support digital improvement projects across our manufacturing facilities
  • Help develop reporting and dashboards using Power BI
  • Support the development and implementation of digital tools and solutions
  • Prepare, analyse and improve operational data
  • Help test new systems and digital tools, working closely with the people who will use them
  • Create clear, accessible process documentation and user guidance
  • Support data quality and governance activities
  • Learn how digital technology can contribute to safer, more efficient and more sustainable manufacturing

What we're looking for

We're not looking for someone who already knows everything. We're looking for someone who is curious, approachable, keen to learn and comfortable working with different people.

You might bring:

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Confidence talking to people, listening to their challenges and asking good questions
  • Curiosity and a willingness to learn
  • An interest in technology, data and finding better ways of doing things
  • Good problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Some practical experience with Power BI, Power Apps or similar digital tools, whether that's through university, an apprenticeship, work experience, a placement or your own projects
  • Confidence working with data and tools such as Excel

Your degree subject isn't the most important thing to us. We're interested in what you can bring, how you work with people and your potential to develop.

Experience with any of the following would be useful, but isn't essential:

  • Power BI or Power Query
  • Power Apps or Microsoft Power Platform
  • Databases or SQL
  • Reporting, automation or data analysis
  • Manufacturing, engineering or another operational environment

Why join Explore Manufacturing?

Explore Manufacturing gives you the opportunity to apply digital thinking to real operational challenges and see the impact of your work in a live manufacturing environment.

You'll also benefit from:

  • Structured development and mentoring
  • Opportunities to develop your Power BI, Power Platform and data skills
  • Access to the Laing O'Rourke Data Academy and Data Guild
  • Exposure to manufacturing technology, systems and processes
  • The opportunity to learn from experienced specialists and colleagues across the business
  • The chance to help shape how digital technology is used within manufacturing

Ready to start your digital career?

If you're curious, good with people and excited by the idea of using technology to solve real problems, we'd love to hear from you.

Don't rule yourself out because your degree isn't in engineering, manufacturing or data. If you've got transferable skills, some experience with digital tools and the enthusiasm to learn, we'd encourage you to apply.
