Laing O'Rourke are currently recruiting for a Principal Engineer to work on our Letchmore Heath Substation project. Location: Watford.
Technical Capability:
- Drives continuous improvement and adapts procedures for complex scenarios.
- Develops, manages, and shares technical knowledge across the business.
- Trials innovative technologies and data solutions on live projects.
- Produces detailed specifications for complex requirements.
- Contributes to training and capability development.
Quality, Workmanship & Testing:
- Influences quality standards, procedures, and specifications.
- Develops best practice, audits performance, and drives improvement.
- Writes scopes of work and ensures subcontractor compliance.
- Promotes innovation to enhance quality and performance.
Materials, Products, Plant & Systems (MPPS):
- Recommends innovative materials and systems, building strong supplier networks.
- Ensures compliance through advanced testing knowledge.
- Drives waste reduction and efficiency improvements.
- Provides expert technical assurance and advice.
Construction Methods & Innovation:
- Champions best practice and innovative construction techniques.
- Evaluates and implements value engineering solutions.
- Develops technical guidance and optimises project delivery methods.
Temporary Works & Lifting:
- Ensures compliance and drives improvements in temporary works procedures.
- Reviews complex schemes and audits lifting operations.
- Supports competency, training, and best practice.
Design Process:
- Collaborates with design teams to ensure buildability and efficiency.
- Resolves design challenges and manages interfaces.
- Promotes DfMA and digital engineering to enhance project outcomes.
- Ensures safe, compliant delivery aligned to design intent.
Information & Change Control:
- Manages approvals, drawings, and project documentation.
- Ensures accurate, up-to-date information flow and records.
- Supports change control and handover documentation.
Requirements:
- Degree qualified in Civil Engineering / MSc.
- 10+ years' experience delivering large scale infrastructure projects.
- Temporary Works Coordinator.
- Experience leading technical engineering teams.
- Tier 1 main contractor experience.
