The IT function has renewed its strategy in response to Laing O'Rourke's ambition to help transform an industry, making it more sustainable, more productive, and fit for the future. Our opportunity is to apply technology in ways that genuinely matter, shaping how complex projects are delivered, how decisions are made, and how innovation improves outcomes for people, communities, and the environment. The mission is clear - to create a modern, resilient technology environment, where data underpins every decision, AI enhances every process, and digital capability accelerates progress at scale.
We are building a different kind of IT function to help achieve this, one that is trusted, forward‑looking, and deeply connected to the success of the business. You will work on meaningful technical challenges, contribute to important initiatives, and grow your capability in a supportive environment. You will be trusted with responsibility, encouraged to contribute ideas, and able to see the impact of your work. We are looking for people who are curious, thoughtful and motivated by contributing to something larger than themselves.
About the role: We are looking for a Senior IT Project Manager to lead the delivery of strategic technology initiatives that support how the business operates and evolves. This role is for someone who enjoys bringing clarity to complexity, partnering closely with stakeholders, and guiding teams through change. You will work on projects that matter, with space to influence how delivery is done and how value is realised.
What will you be doing?
- You’ll take responsibility for the end‑to‑end delivery of technology projects, from initiation through to completion.
- While your primary focus will be on the UK business, you will also collaborate with colleagues in our Middle East and Australia operations where required.
- Working across IT and the wider business, you will create structure, momentum and shared understanding.
- A key part of the role is translating complex technical information into clear, practical language so stakeholders can make informed decisions with confidence.
In this role, you will:
- Lead the delivery of IT and technology‑enabled projects, ensuring outcomes are clearly defined and progress is predictable and transparent.
- Establish appropriate governance, plans and reporting to provide clarity, control and trust.
- Work in partnership with business leaders, technical teams and delivery partners to align priorities and expectations.
- Identify and manage risks, issues and dependencies with sound judgement and timely action.
- Communicate progress and challenges clearly, adapting your style for technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Contribute to improving delivery practices and ways of working across the IT function.
Who will you work with? You’ll work alongside IT colleagues, delivery partners and business stakeholders who value collaboration, openness and thoughtful problem‑solving. This is an environment where strong relationships, trust and clear communication are central to successful delivery.
Why this role? You will have the opportunity to influence not just what is delivered, but how it is delivered. Your leadership approach, judgement and ability to bring people together will make a visible difference.
You will probably recognise yourself in many of the following:
- Proven experience delivering IT or technology projects in complex organisational environments.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage confidently with both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- A structured yet pragmatic approach to planning, governance and risk management.
- Confidence taking ownership of outcomes and making sound delivery decisions.
- A collaborative style that builds trust and encourages shared accountability.
- Formal project management or delivery certifications are helpful but not essential.
We are equally interested in how you think, how you communicate and how you lead. Don’t meet every requirement? We know that strong project managers do not all look the same or follow the same path. If this role interests you and you believe you could grow into it while making a positive contribution, we would love to hear from you.
