The Role
As Senior Environment Advisor, you'll play a key role in supporting the project team to deliver environmental excellence throughout construction.
Working closely with operational teams, clients, regulators and specialist contractors, you'll provide practical environmental advice, ensure legal and contractual compliance and help identify opportunities to improve sustainability performance.
This is a varied role that combines strategic thinking with a strong site presence, enabling you to influence behaviours, manage environmental risk and champion best practice across the project.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the business in delivering its sustainability ambitions, helping achieve Net Zero and nature‑positive outcomes across the project.
- Ensure compliance with the LOR Energy and Environmental Management System and relevant environmental legislation.
- Embed client and business environmental and sustainability requirements throughout project delivery.
- Identify environmental risks and opportunities and work with project teams to develop effective mitigation strategies.
- Manage environmental consents, liaising with regulators and consent‑granting authorities to ensure approvals are secured in line with programme requirements.
- Coordinate specialist environmental consultants and contractors to manage environmental risks effectively.
- Develop, implement and maintain the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP).
- Produce and maintain the Resource Management Plan, ensuring effective waste management, legal compliance and delivery of waste reduction targets.
- Deliver environmental training, toolbox talks and awareness sessions for project teams and the workforce.
- Promote a positive environmental culture through regular engagement with site teams.
- Monitor environmental performance through inspections, audits and compliance reviews.
- Collate, analyse and report environmental performance data and key sustainability metrics.
- Champion initiatives including carbon reduction, waste minimisation, biodiversity enhancement and pollution prevention.
- Ensure appropriate environmental emergency arrangements are established, maintained and regularly tested.
- Participate in environmental audits, management reviews and continual improvement activities.
- Investigate environmental incidents, identify root causes and support implementation of corrective actions.
About You
You'll be an experienced environmental professional with a passion for supporting major infrastructure projects and driving continual improvement.
Confident engaging with project teams at every level, providing practical advice and influencing positive environmental outcomes while balancing programme and operational requirements.
You'll also have
- Experience supporting major construction, utilities, energy or infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of UK environmental legislation and environmental management within construction.
- Excellent understanding of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems, with knowledge of ISO 50001 considered advantageous.
- The ability to identify environmental risks and develop pragmatic solutions.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- A proactive, collaborative approach with the confidence to influence and challenge where appropriate.
- A genuine passion for sustainability and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Sustainability or a related discipline.
- Membership of IEMA, IES or CIEEM (Practitioner level or above preferred).
- Environmental Auditor qualification.
- Experience working within the energy, utilities or major infrastructure sectors.
