Expanded Piling is the specialist foundation division of Laing O'Rourke, delivering expert piling, walling and ground improvement solutions across the UK. With roots dating back to 1825, we bring deep geotechnical expertise and a strong commitment to achieving net zero carbon by 2050. We are now recruiting a Senior Commercial Manager to join our team in Suffolk. Be part of this once‑in‑a‑generation project that will deliver clean energy to 6 million homes for the next 60 years. Sizewell C will see the creation of a 3.2‑Gigawatt nuclear power station on the Suffolk coast to provide reliable low‑carbon electricity.

The Civil Works Alliance is an extended delivery enterprise involving Sizewell C and three international construction companies: Balfour Beatty, Bouygues Travaux Publics and Laing O'Rourke. We are more than just an alliance; we bring together a single delivery organisation with years of learning and experience from other major complex infrastructure programmes worldwide.

Responsibilities

  • Commercial responsibility for multiple structures across the project.
  • Advise and manage commercial risks within the project.
  • Provide a team of surveyors with support and guidance on their job responsibilities.
  • Form an integral part of the multidisciplinary sub‑teams responsible for project delivery and client service.
  • Support the interim applications for payment and agreements.
  • Manage, administer and settle subcontractors' accounts, including accountability for those delegated to your team.
  • Prepare and manage any claims.
  • Flexibly manage staff to provide an effective commercial service for the business.
  • Negotiate with client's representatives, subcontractors and other consultants to achieve project results whilst maintaining group relationships.
  • Input into contractual implications of intended courses of action.
  • Support the preparation of monthly contract review reports, communicating key risk, opportunity and change with transparency in a timely manner.
  • Support the preparation and issue of weekly Business Plan Review (BPR) information.
  • Identify change and implement the change control process and agreement in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that contract documents are properly executed prior to project commencement.
  • Adopt appropriate measures for management of risk.
  • Keep your manager fully advised of any issue or risk that has arisen or might arise and could affect the business or project.

Skills & Experience

  • Strong knowledge of NEC contracts.
  • Experience within infrastructure and/or power sectors.
  • Geotechnical or piling experience desirable.
  • Degree qualified in a relevant discipline (Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management).
  • Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors desirable but not essential.
