Freelance Design Manager – Electrical – Wastewater Infrastructure
Location: Beckton Wastewater Treatment Works, East London (site-based)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: 6 months (potential for future work or permanent employment)
We\’re looking for an experienced electrically biased Design Manager to help us successfully deliver the final stages of a major upgrade at Beckton Wastewater Treatment Works – one of the largest treatment plants in Europe. This is a hands‑on, site‑based role where you\’ll bring technical expertise, coordination skills, and a collaborative approach to ensure a smooth finish.
What You\’ll Be Doing
- Managing and reviewing electrical design deliverables to ensure compliance with contractual, statutory, and technical requirements.
- Overseeing coordination between electrical design, other disciplines, and site teams to maintain programme and buildability.
- Managing technical queries, changes, and assurance documentation in the run‑up to commissioning and handover.
- Engaging with consultants, subcontractors, and the client to resolve design challenges quickly and effectively.
- Supporting construction activities, quality assurance, and final documentation to close out the project.
What We\’re Looking For
- Degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering (Chartered status desirable).
- Proven experience as a Design Manager (electrical bias) in complex infrastructure projects – ideally in water, wastewater, or process‑driven environments.
- Strong understanding of multi‑disciplinary coordination and working to tight deadlines.
- Ability to interpret and apply design management processes from concept through to handover.
- Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills with a collaborative mindset.
