We are recruiting for an Extra High Voltage Electrical Project Manager to join a major substation development in Colchester, forming part of the wider reinforcement and expansion of the UK transmission network. This nationally significant project will support the integration of renewable energy into the grid and contribute to the UK's long-term energy security and net zero ambitions.

What is the role?

This role requires proven experience delivering EHV projects up to 400kV, ideally within National Grid transmission environments. You'll take ownership of project delivery across programme, engineering, commercial, and operational performance, leading multidisciplinary teams through all stages of the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the full project lifecycle from planning and mobilisation through to delivery and close‑out
  • Manage the successful delivery of EHV infrastructure works up to 400kV
  • Act as the primary interface with National Grid and key project stakeholders
  • Develop and manage detailed project plans, budgets, programmes, and risk registers
  • Lead and motivate multidisciplinary project teams across engineering, commercial, and delivery functions
  • Drive high performance in safety, quality, programme, and commercial outcomes
  • Monitor financial progress, manage change and variations, and ensure cost targets are achieved
  • Coordinate subcontractors, consultants, authorities, and external stakeholders
  • Administer NEC contracts and manage project change effectively
  • Promote a proactive safety culture and ensure compliance with all regulatory and industry standards

What We're Looking For

  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Chartered status (CEng or equivalent) desirable
  • Strong track record delivering EHV transmission or substation projects up to 400kV
  • Previous experience working on National Grid infrastructure projects is highly desirable
  • Excellent understanding of HV/EHV systems, substations, and transmission infrastructure
  • Strong commercial and contract management capability, ideally within NEC contracts
  • Proven ability to lead large, multidisciplinary teams on technically complex infrastructure projects
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills
