Role Description

The BEMS Project Design Engineer is responsible for producing high-quality Building Management System (BMS), Electrical Power Monitoring System (EPMS) and Energy Management System (EMS) designs to support the successful delivery of mission-critical Data Centre projects.

The role will involve taking ownership of theengineering design for allocated projects from project handover through to commissioning and final handover, ensuring designs are safe, coordinated, commercially aware and delivered in accordance with client specifications and project programmes.

Working closelywith Project Managers, Commissioning Engineers, Clients, Consultants and specialist subcontractors, the successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of resilient, high-performance control systems supporting critical mechanical and electrical infrastructure within Data Centre environments.

  • Engineering Design
  • Produce complete BMS, EPMS and EMS design packages from client specifications and project requirements.
  • Produce Points Lists, I/O Schedules and Controller Schedules.
  • Develop Functional Design Specifications (Description of Operation).
  • Design system architecture and network topology for resilient control systems.
  • Select appropriate BMS controllers, EPMS devices, EMS platforms and field equipment.
  • Review of control panel panel layouts and wiring drawings.
  • Design resilient control systems for mission-critical Data Centre environments.
  • Ensure engineering documentation complies with company standards, client specifications and industry best practice.
  • Maintain accurate engineering documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support and Mentor Junior Design Engineer and Apprentices
  • Project Delivery
  • Manage engineering deliverables for allocated projects.
  • Coordinate engineering activities with Project Managers and Commissioning Engineers.
  • Attend internal design reviews and client technical meetings.
  • Support procurement with technical equipment selection.
  • Prepare and manage technical submittals and RFI's.
  • Respond to RFI's and technical queries.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary coordination with Mechanical, Electrical and ICT teams.
  • Support Digital Engineering and BIM coordination where required.
  • Provide engineering support during commissioning, Integrated Systems Testing (IST) and project handover.
  • Produce accurate as-built documentation.
  • Technical Responsibilities
  • Design integrated BMS, EPMS and EMS solutions for mission-critical facilities.
  • Develop network architectures using BACnet, Modbus TCP/IP and Ethernet-based communications.
  • Integrate with third-party systems.
  • Develop solutions that are reliable, maintainable, scalable and commercially effective.
  • Understand redundancy philosophies including N, N+1 and 2N architectures.
  • Ensure cybersecurity principles are considered throughout system design.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering standards, templates and design processes.
  • Maintain awareness of new technologies and industry developments.
  • Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Software Factory Acceptance Testing (SFAT), Integrated Systems Testing (IST) and commissioning activities.
  • Health, Safety & Quality
  • Comply with all Company Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure engineering designs comply with statutory regulations and client requirements.
  • Promote safe engineering practices throughout project delivery.
  • Produce accurate, coordinated and high-quality engineering documentation.
  • Participate in design reviews, quality assurance processes and lessons learned activities.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • HNC/HND, Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum three years' experience designing BMS systems.
  • Experience delivering projects within Data Centre or other mission-critical environments.
  • Good understanding of critical mechanical and electrical infrastructure.
  • Experience with Schneider Eco Struxure, Tridium Niagara or similar BMS platforms.
  • Experience designing or integrating EPMS and EMS solutions.
  • Strong understanding of BACnet and Modbus communications.
  • Experience producing, Functional Design Specifications, Points Lists, Network Architecture Drawings.
  • Proficient in Auto CAD.
  • Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Desirable

  • Electrical Engineering qualifications (full electrical apprenticeship or equivalent).
  • Schneider Eco Struxure Building Operation, Schneider Power Monitoring Expert (PME), Tridium Niagara, or Siemens Desigo.
  • Experience with DCIM platforms.
  • Revit, Navisworks or BIM coordination.
  • Commissioning experience.
  • Knowledge of IEC 62443 Cyber Security principles.
  • Understanding of Uptime Institute Tier Standards.
  • ECS or CSCS Card.
