Are you passionate about driving sustainable practices in large-scale construction projects? Laing O'Rourke are seeking a proactive Environmental Advisor to support our team on a flagship project site. This role will form part of a growing environment team as part of an evolving project portfolio, which is set to run over the next decade. We are helping to deliver a major power upgrade for the National Grid - one of the largest upgrades to the UK power network in decades — a transformative, high-value project that will shape the nation's energy future.
This role requires a hands‑on professional who can seamlessly split their time between the site office and out in the field, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, managing risks, and championing sustainable practices throughout the construction process. You will split your time between site office and out in the field with the primary focus and majority of time supporting project Kiln Lane, located near Friston, Suffolk and then some additional support to ATNC project based Norwich to Tilbury.
- Kiln Lane - Construction of a new substation
- ATNC - 47km of OHL enabling works and tower foundations and construction of a new substation
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and manage environmental compliance on-site in line with legal requirements and company policies
- Conduct regular environmental audits and inspections in both office and field settings
- Engage with project managers, contractors, and regulatory bodies to mitigate environmental risks
- Provide expert advice and training to site personnel on environmental best practices
- Support the implementation of environmental management plans and sustainability initiatives
- Prepare and submit environmental reports and documentation as required
What We're Looking For:
- Proven experience as an Environmental Advisor or similar role within the construction or energy sector
- Strong understanding of environmental legislation and standards relevant to large‑scale infrastructure projects
- Experience doing in‑field environmental monitoring tasks such as collecting water samples, ground investigative works, setting up noise and vibration monitoring equipment and ability to present findings
- Good understanding of ISO 14001 EMS and implementation of project CEMP requirements
- Excellent communication skills, capable of working collaboratively with multi‑disciplinary teams
- Relevant qualifications in environmental science, sustainability, or related fields
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within the project site
