Senior Land Surveyor – Enabling and Earthworks
Location: Suffolk

The Civil Works Alliance (CWA) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Land Surveyor to support the successful delivery of the Sizewell C Project.
CWA, appointed by the Sizewell C client, brings together three leading delivery contractors — Laing O\’Rourke, Bouygues, and Balfour Beatty — to deliver the civils scope including Enabling Earthworks, Main Civil Works, and Marine and Tunnelling.
We are seeking a Senior Land Surveyor to support the delivery of the Enabling Works and Earthworks scope. This early stage of the project includes major packages such as the SSSI Crossing, ground improvements, dewatering, diaphragm walls, sea defence, Marine Bulk Import Facility (MBIF), Beach Landing Facility (BLF), construction drainage outfall and bulk earthworks.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain control networks to support the full lifecycle of the project
- Plan and execute high accuracy setting out for earthworks, drainage, utilities, bridges, structures and foundations
- Perform and oversee as-built surveys, ensuring outputs meet client and design requirements
- Manage integration of machine control systems (Trimble, Leica, Topcon) and support UAV (drone) surveying operations
- Prepare, check and submit survey outputs including CAD drawings, 3D models and as-built deliverables
- Collaborate with engineers and construction teams to align survey outputs with design intent
- Implement robust quality control and compliance procedures, troubleshooting discrepancies as required
- Mentor and train junior survey staff, supporting their technical and professional development
- Ensure survey activities meet health, safety and nuclear safety requirements
What skills & experience are we looking for?
Essential:
- HND/Degree in Land Surveying, Civil Engineering, Geomatics or related discipline
- 3+ years\’ experience in site-based surveying on large-scale civil engineering projects (highways, rail, earthworks, infrastructure)
- Strong experience in survey control, setting out, QA procedures, and as-built documentation
- Proficiency with GNSS, Total Stations, digital levels, and laser scanners (Leica/Trimble preferred)
- Skilled in relevant software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, LSS, Leica Captivate, or Trimble Business Center
- SSSTS qualification
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Desirable:
- Membership with a professional body (e.g. RICS, ICES, CIHT)
- Experience with machine control systems and 3D modelling
