Are you a Senior Project Planner with power or energy sector experience?

Laing O\’Rourke have been appointed to deliver a new £300M substation in Margam, Wales.

The appointment follows our recent win on the Great Grid Partnership and is another successful bid in one of our six priority sectors as we focus on building certainty and resilience across the business.

Margam substation forms part of Government\’s target to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050. The existing substation will be reconfigured to a larger station and incorporate new gas insulated switchgears (GIS). Significant infrastructure work will be required to increase the footprint of the site and to integrate the new GIS with the existing equipment.

As a senior project planner, you will be responsible for developing, managing, and monitoring the project programme and controls and is a key member of the team to deliver the scheme. The senior project planner also gives strategic and commercial advice on programme implications.

Role and responsibility

  • Provide leadership for the planning and coordination processes.
  • To implement and maintain the requirements of the Project Business Plan.
  • Ensure that all programmes are compliant with the Project requirements.
  • Develop and agree by collaboration a logical sequence of events ensuring that the most economical/advantageous construction strategy is adopted.
  • Analyse performance and advise the project team of likely impact and recommend improvements.
  • Ensure that the construction strategy and any recommended improvements are communicated.
  • Provide leadership, support and training, and contribute to career development.
  • Co-ordinate for stakeholders, partners and supply chain all time-related information.
  • Represent the project/business with all stakeholders.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities and tasks as required by the project/business.
  • Develop and feedback process improvement.
  • Develop, maintain and update Contract Programme and Programme to Build in accordance with the project requirements
  • Report on progress and issues with advice on mitigation
  • Provide leadership, support and training, and contribute to career development.
  • Coordinate with internal customers – commercial, design, customer care and construction
  • Responsible for the delivery of planning and coordination processes.
  • Ensure that all programmes are compliant with the Project requirements..
  • Liaise with client and other stakeholders
  • Record and report on efficiency of labour

Qualification

  • Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or similar sector related
  • CIOB Membership
  • Leading the planning and controls function on a project (medium – high complexity)
  • Maintenance of programme and other time related material
  • Implementing robust project controls, accurate reporting and forecasting
