Laing O'Rourke are currently recruiting Design Managers of all backgrounds including Architectural, Electrical, Mechanical, Structural and Civils & Geo for a variety of live projects and pending bids predominantly in the London and South East area.
The Opportunity:
This Senior Design Manager will lead the delivery of effective design across this single large-scale project. They provide a focus for, and lead the pre-construction phase design processes, liaising with the client, the design team, in-house bid team and the operations team. On live projects, they implement and lead the processes that enable the design to be challenged and interrogated within a collaborative team framework, to enable risks to be reduced.
This Senior Design Manager will be a senior member of the Design Job Family and Technical Function, which is there to ensure technical excellence, assurance and performance across all projects and opportunities from pre-project, early engagement and work winning through to detailed delivery. All our designers are part of our Engineering Enterprise which aims to maximise and realise the potential of design to increase certainty on our projects.
What will the role look like?
- Providing a focus for and lead the pre-construction phase briefing and design processes.
- Leads LOR's design management procedures, providing a functional link between the commercial and construction teams and the designers throughout the project life.
- Implements the processes that enable the design to be challenged and interrogated within a collaborative team framework.
- Implements agreed processes for the production, control and distribution of design information at different project stages.
- Ensures regular progress reporting of the design.
- Ensures design information is thoroughly reviewed: for buildability, safety and maintainability, ‘completeness & compliance' and technical suitability before use.
- Assists the Design Leader in promoting innovation in design management, methodology, processes and practices.
- Assist the Design Leader in promoting the application and adoption of the Company's vision and values in all design management activities.
What skills & experience are we looking for?
- Experience end to end in managing design – from concept to handover.
- First degree in Building Services / Architecture Discipline / MEICA or other appropriate construction related qualification plus design related experience.
- Sector specialism as well as deep and broad experience managing the design of construction or building services projects.
