Calling all mathematicians! Laidlaw has teamed up with Simon Singh's Parallel programme to recruit paid tutors (£30/hr) for talented young maths students. Open to current Scholars and alumni with the right to work in the UK. Applications close end of June.
Laidlaw is excited about a new collaboration with best-selling science writer Simon Singh, author of books such as Fermat's Last Theorem. Simon runs the Parallel programme, which currently supports 1,000 talented maths students at state schools across the UK. Students join online group tutorials every week from Year 7 through to Year 11, with the goal of increasing the number and diversity of truly excellent mathematicians.
Over the next six months, Parallel will welcome 500 new students, so the team is looking to recruit more paid tutors (£30/hour) who are studying a maths‑related degree or have a strong maths background. This is a great chance to develop your teaching skills, support a new generation of mathematicians, and earn some money while you study!
Who it's for:
- This opportunity is open to Scholars completing their first or second year, as well as alumni.
- You'll need the right to work in the UK.
- Everyone who applies will be invited to a short online tutoring course (3 × 1 hour) in mid‑July.
- You'll also have the chance to co‑tutor an online class.
- Those offered tutoring roles will start in September 2026, or can defer to January 2027.
Looking forward to seeing some of you get involved!
