A unique opportunity to lead the thriving Philosophy and Religion department at the London Academy of Excellence Tottenham – the Sunday Times ‘State 6th Form College of the Year 2020‑21’. The department offers students a broad experience of the discipline, including external visits and opportunities to explore the subject beyond the specification. Exam results are consistently excellent. This role is suited to someone who loves the subject and can inspire colleagues and students alike.
LAE Tottenham opened in September 2017 and currently has more than 800 students on roll. It is an academically selective 16‑19 free school harnessing the support of nine independent schools to offer unrivalled educational opportunities to the most ambitious and motivated 16‑19‑year‑olds from Haringey and beyond.
Responsibilities- Lead the Philosophy and Religion department to maintain and improve high attainment outcomes.
- Inspire and support students, ensuring they achieve outstanding results.
- Collaborate with senior leadership on curriculum development and departmental strategy.
- Organise and monitor external visits and enrichment programmes.
- Provide mentorship and professional development for teaching staff.
- Exceptional subject knowledge in Philosophy and Religion.
- Experience as a teacher and proven middle‑leadership experience.
- Strong communication and student engagement skills.
- Commitment to safeguarding and the welfare of children.
Pay is in the range £39,447 – £62,500 FTE, dependent on experience, using the LAE Tottenham pay scale. An additional £2,500 per annum Lead Teacher allowance is provided. Full‑time or part‑time (0.6 or more basis) positions are offered on a permanent basis. Benefits include free breakfast and lunch, Benenden Health private healthcare, and other standard staff benefits.
