Location: Llanfair PG, Anglesey
Salary: £133.40- £162.83 per day (dependent on qualifications and experience)
Wage: (£15.17 - £18.51 per hour) Day rate between £125.76 - £153.45.
Contract: Casual
Hours: 1 session is 3.7 hours, a usual day includes a morning and afternoon session.
The Role
- We seek outdoor professionals to join our casual and freelance Outdoor Education Instructor team to deliver outdoor sessions to children visiting our centre.
- A session is 3.5 hours plus preparation and tidying time, and is either a morning, afternoon or evening.
- We require you to be passionate about and committed to teaching high quality Outdoor Education courses that our customer groups return for year after year.
- The role will involve sharing the responsibility for the preparation, planning, co‑ordination and evaluation of the outdoor residential courses.
- Inducting guests and assisting to maintain equipment and facilities, whilst working closely with the outdoor team and adhering to our risk management processes.
We are looking for people whose background will allow them to demonstrate a calm, considered and professional approach to working with a diverse clientele who may require additional support or considerations. We are open to all applications who can demonstrate at least one season of experience of working with children and young people in the outdoors. We particularly seek staff who have demonstrated their competence by gaining national governing body awards in the activity categories we provide.
On the water we provide canoeing, kayaking, raft building, sailing, and stand‑up paddleboarding. On the land we provide climbing, high level ropes, zipwire, bushcraft, mountain biking and via ferrata amongst others. For off‑site adventures, such as gorge walking, coasteering and mining you will require minibus/trailer qualification (D1+E) and up to date CPC and digital tachograph card.
The centre team are friendly, outgoing and inclusive. If you decide to become involved you will benefit from regular training, and support to gain further professional qualifications. The Conway Centre is an excellent location to continue developing your outdoor career.
The Main Responsibilities
- Maintaining and helping to develop the delivery of high-quality Outdoor Education activities at the Centre, whilst able to deliver at a technical level for some courses.
- Ensure that the high quality and culture of the centre is maintained, whilst also inducting customers and ensure the aims of courses are met.
- Plan and lead staff training, monitoring and sign‑offs of instructors.
- Develop and take responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep of equipment and facilities within an area within your technical expertise.
The Job
The job is on a casual basis meeting the demands of the centre throughout the year. We work in sessions, a session is either a morning, afternoon or evening. A typical day involves a morning session and an afternoon session. Most schools come to stay in term time, though we have a range of groups who stay during school holidays. There may also be the requirement to do periodic evening duties. The pay is dependent on experience and qualifications.
The Centre Conway Centre Anglesey has been welcoming groups of young people for Outdoor Education and Arts courses since 1969, and is now a part of Edsential Residential. The Conway Centre has large grounds, woodland areas and access to the Menai Strait through a private dock, allowing us the opportunity for a large portion of our sessions to be based onsite. We are located adjacent to the National Trusts Plas Newydd House and have easy access to the coasts, mountains, rivers and lakes of Snowdonia National Park and Anglesey AONB, which facilitate many off‑site opportunities. This provides an ideal location for our approach to use Outdoor Education activities to facilitate the development of young people in accordance with their aims and objectives. The Conway Centre can accommodate over four hundred young people and their accompanying staff all year round.
