We’re hiring a driven Manufacturing Engineer / CNC Programmer to join our elite, lean engineering team in Arundel, ME. We are a high-end facility, focusing on highly complex, tight-tolerance components for the aerospace, defense, semiconductor, and oil & gas industries. Our shop produces these advanced parts through ultra-precise milling and turning operations.

At its core, your role is to own all the engineering work required to make those manufacturing processes a reality, including developing machining strategies, designing custom workholding, writing flawless programs, mapping ERP routing, and driving continuous shop floor optimization. In this role, you will own the manufacturing process from start to finish. You’ll use SolidWorks and ESPRIT CAM to program multi-axis lathes and mill-turn machines, design your own fixturing, and create highly detailed setup sheets and inspection documentation.

We aren’t just looking for an academic engineer who sits behind a desk; we want someone with real, hands-on machining experience who knows how metal behaves, specifically high-temp alloys like Inconel and Titanium. If you are a self-starter who wants to work alongside seasoned machining experts, this is your home.

Why Join Us?

  • State-of-the-art machining facility that truly sells itself.
  • Autonomous, meaningful high-mix, mission-critical work.
  • Potential for a 7.5% target bonus based on business unit performance.

Compensation

$85,000 – $125,000 / yr Potential for 7.5% performance-based target bonus. Sign-on/Relocation bonus available.

Responsibilities

  • CNC Programming: Generate and optimize complex CNC programs primarily for multi-axis lathes, mill-turns, and 4/5-axis machining centers using ESPRIT CAM.
  • Process Ownership: Handle all facets of New Product Introduction (NPI), taking a part from the initial blueprint and CAD model through fixturing, programming, and shop floor prove-out.
  • Fixture & Tooling Design: Use SolidWorks to design workholding, fixtures, and any necessary tooling required for complex machining operations.
  • Documentation: Generate detailed, error-free setup sheets (utilizing internal Excel macros), tool lists, and in-process inspection (IPI) paperwork using SolidWorks Inspection.
  • DFM & Quoting Support: Review complex engineering documents—including CAD models, MBD/DPD/PMI data, and customer specifications—to provide Design for Manufacturability (DFM) feedback and estimate process times.
  • Tooling Procurement & ROI: Manage tooling projects by calculating ROI to justify new cutting tools or workholding strategies, presenting recommendations to leadership, and ordering required components.
  • ERP Routing: Develop and maintain manufacturing plans, process flows, and cycle times within the ERP system (training provided during the first 6 months).
  • Floor Support & Troubleshooting: Work closely with operations and setup machinists to troubleshoot processes, debug new methods, refine G-code, and maintain the continuity of production flow.

Qualifications Required

  • Experience: 3-5+ years of hands-on CNC machining/manufacturing experience on the shop floor. We highly value candidates who came up through the trades making chips before moving into engineering/programming.
  • CAM Proficiency: 2+ years of experience programming with CAM software (ESPRIT highly preferred, but strong Mastercam users willing to learn will be considered).
  • CAD Skills: 2+ years of experience using CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) for 3D modeling and fixture design.
  • Independence: Strong self-starter mentality. Must be driven, reliable, and capable of working without being micromanaged.

Preferred

  • Machine Specialty: Heavy background in turning, multi-axis lathes, and mill-turn equipment.
  • Software: Direct experience with ESPRIT CAM and SolidWorks.
  • Materials: Experience machining exotic and difficult alloys (Inconel, Titanium, high-temp aerospace alloys).
  • Education: A degree in Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineering is great, but a high school diploma with a strong, hands-on CNC machining and programming background is absolutely welcomed.
  • Systems: Experience routing jobs and maintaining templates in an ERP system.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision
  • 401(k) with match
  • PTO
