To help us with our mission to improve health and improve lives, we are seeking a Microbiologist to join our supportive and collaborative Safety Pharmacology team at our site in Alconbury, Cambridgeshire.
This role is predominantly lab based and would suit a graduate or someone with some Microbiology/cell biology experience looking to take the next step in their career. You will have the opportunity to learn and support our study directors and work on routine and non-routine Microbiology and Virology studies.
Responsibilities
-
Supporting study directors in conducting and running Microbiology, Virology and In Vitro Safety Assessment studies in accordance with study protocols, regulatory guidelines, and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).

Assisting with studies where counts of microbiological organisms in organs are required.

Learning core lab skills including reagent preparation, maintenance of bacterial/fungal strains and cells stocks, dose formulation, equipment monitoring and calibration, record keeping and departmental administration.

Accurate data collection e.g. Agar plate counts, identification of microbial pathogens, microscope counting techniques, 96 well-plate scoring/plate reading.

Maintaining stock of consumables and reagents, ordering supplies as required.

Disposal of expired media and chemicals.

Maintaining cleanliness of laboratory and preparation areas, ensuring clean glassware etc.

Education
-
BSc in Microbiology (preferred) or cell biology related course. Experience may be substituted for education.
Skills / Experience

Any knowledge and/or experience in the following: Microbiology, in vitro cell culture/cell biology.

Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.

Strong communication (both written and verbal) and listening skills.

Organised with the ability to work to deadlines.

Team-orientated with the ability to work independently upon completion of training.

Knowledge and/or experience working to GLP advantageous.
